Ski Jumping

Ski jumping is an Olympic winter sport when athletes descend on skis at the start of the ski jump bail, on a ramp (jump table), and try to fly Ski Jumpingas far as they can.  They are assessed by the distance they have travelled and their landing.  Ski jumping is an individual sport, together with cross-country skiing.

Similarly, team jumping corresponds to the result of the sum of the scores of the individual persons.  The jumping on particularly large jumps (from a Hill size of 185m, so-called flying jumps) is called Ski-flying.  The athletes ride on skis on a prepared snow track (or in the summer on ceramic, metal or matte lane) down the start of the ski jump.

First, the jumpers set on the beam that the start-up of the jump push themselves away from the beam with their hands and take the starting position, achieving a squatting posture.

The ski jumping is focused on with a powerful leap that pulls the skis to the body and spreading them simultaneously from a V shape. This part of the jump is very important for the further course of the exercise.

During the jump itself ski jumpers maintain that in-flight position, until they come so close to the slope that they must land. To gain a better attitude the jumper’s feet needs to be in a stride position with their arms spread out. This technique is called land of telemark.

The maximum theoretical peak width is itself conditioned by the Bank.  Identification of the “hill-type” is the Hillsize mark.  The total score obtained by a jumper for their leap is made up equally of the points for distance and attitude.

The width is measured from on stills from a video camera. This is extrapolated to the landing point, which is calculated from specially entered measurement points, and so the width is accurately determined.

The judges, usually five (but not less than three) assign scores for the three categories to be evaluated: flight; landing and departure.  Of the five scores, the highest and lowest scores are removed, so that the jumper is allowed a maximum of 60 points (posture score).
