Indulge Your Adventurer: 10 Adrenaline-Fuelled Hobbies You Should Try

Those who have an adventurer inside of them just waiting to break out should consider taking up a new hobby to get their adrenaline pumping. A good online outdoor clothing shop can kit you out with everything that you need to start enjoying a fast-paced lifestyle; so, what are you waiting for?

Not sure where to start? Consider some of the following high-adrenaline activities and you’ll never look back.

1. Trekking

A good trek can mean adventuring for days, so it’s important to be well prepared for all possible eventualities. Long, lightweight walking trousers are essential as they will keep your ankles and legs protected from scrapes, scratches and insects.

It’s important to properly support the feet and ankles with a pair of good quality walking boots, and lightweight layers are great for sun and element protection, without weighing you down.

2. Mountaineering

Mountaineering takes trekking to the extreme as you hike up a mountain, battling difficult weather conditions and altitude.

As with trekking you need a good pair of boots, but don’t make the mistake of thinking that your old walking boots will do. For mountaineering you’ll need a firmer grip and a warmer, water-resistant boot.

3. Climbing

For altitude with attitude, why not give climbing a go? As a beginner, you could start on indoor climbing walls and move onto a less contrived environment when your confidence grows.

Not for the faint of heart, climbing is an extreme sport and it’s essential to have the correct climbing equipment. Specially designed rock climbing shoes should be worn – even on indoor walls – to protect the toes and feet while maintaining maximum flexibility and grip.

4. Abseiling

Thrill seekers who prefer coming down mountains to climbing up them, should try the quick route down and give abseiling a go.

5. Bungee Jumping

An even quicker way to descend from a great height is by bungee jumping. The jump is usually done from a building, bridge or crane, but those after that extra kick of adrenalin could progress to bungee jumping from a moving object, such as a hot air balloon or helicopter.

6. Skiing

Skiing is an amazing winter sport that’s seriously addictive. Nothing can beat the feeling of cutting through powdery white snow with the swish of your skis. As with most extreme sports, skiers enjoy some spectacular scenery as well as improving their fitness.

7. Snowboarding

Skiing’s cooler little brother, snowboarding has an amazing ‘scene’ that participants can get actively involved in.

In terms of kit, as with skiing, warmth and movement are important, and Arc’teryx jackets offer that and more. Water resistance, reinforced high wear areas, and adjustable cuffs and hems are all welcome features when you need your ski and boarding get-up to simply perform.

8. Scuba Diving

Those who prefer to get wet could try scuba diving in the UK; with a surprising amount of training available at many dive centres nationwide.

Of course, nothing can beat jetting off to foreign climes to try out your new scuba diving skills in shimmering, turquoise waters.

9. Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is a great hobby to take up if you want to get fit and enjoy spending time in the great outdoors. Tight fitting layers are best for mountain biking as they reduce wind resistance and make for a smoother, faster, more comfortable ride.

10. Zorbing

Another high-speed activity that’s relatively new to the extreme sports scene is zorbing. Zorbing involves rolling down a slope in a transparent plastic orb, reminiscent of a hamster ball. Whichever new hobby you choose make sure that you take professional instruction and that you have the appropriate kit before beginning. After that, the world is your hamster ball, so get ready for rolling down a hill.
